French bronze clock of Louis Philippe period. During the decade 1830 – 1840 the medieval gothic style became popular in France and had a direct impact on literature, furniture, paintings and clocks.
Dyed bronze case in shape of a gothic cathedral on a marmor base. The bronze dial which is not dyed is made in shape of a rose similiar to those you find in the front sides of gothic cathedrals. Small enamel cartouches wear black Roman numerals.
8 day spring wound movement of Paris type, half and full hour striking on bell, locking-plate striking system, anchor escapement, brass dial with Roman hour numerals, ornate brass hands. Silk suspension with fine adjustement from the back of the movement.
The movement is marked on its back backplate: C 242
