VOLUME 4 / 2022  HISTORY OF COMTOISE CLOCKS -                   FROM  LANTERN CLOCK TO  COMTOISE CLOCK                        Bernd Deckert - Comtoise Clock Museum

For decades, all collectors have been looking for the ORIGIN-COMTOISE, i.e. the oldest COMTOISE CLOCK. According to the Mayet legend, Comtoise clocks were said to have been built in the High Jura from 1680/1690, but to date not a single Haut-Jura Comtoise clock has been found that could clearly be dated to the 17th century. But now a Haute-Saône Comtoise clock and a Comtoise hybrid movement (moivement with parts of a lantern clock and a Comtoise clock) have been found, which can certainly be dated to the 17th century in the decades 1670 to 1690.

THE ORIGIN-COMTOISE EXISTS!

You can see the ORIGIN COMTOISE CLOCK  and the COMTOISE HYBRID MOVEMENT in the COMTOISE CLOCK MUSEUM in Düsseldorf/FRG

Forget what you had previously learned in the relevant Comtoise literature about the origins of the Comtoise clock of the High Jura, and read now how the Comtoise clock of the High Jura developed from the lantern clock over the Haute-Saône Comtoise.
